Description
A two-tone stoneware shoulder jug featuring a globular body and a short, narrow neck with a flared, double-ringed rim. The vessel is finished with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze on the upper half and a cream-colored Bristol-type glaze on the lower half. The front of the lower portion features a rectangular transfer-printed label in black ink with a Greek key border reading: BENTON, MYERS & CO. CLEVELAND, OHIO. The jug includes two integral stoneware lugs that hold an original wire bail handle with a turned wooden grip. Benton, Myers & Co. was a wholesale drug company operating in Cleveland during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Capacity: Approximately 1 gallon.
