Description
A collection of three antique hand-loomed linen household textiles, likely comprising dowry towels or dresser scarves, featuring red cross-stitch embroidery. The first piece is a rectangular cloth of heavyweight natural-toned linen with visible slubs, featuring the initials I * B * W hand-embroidered in red cross-stitch along one edge. The second piece is an off-white linen towel with a single red horizontal woven stripe and hand-knotted fringe. It is centrally embroidered in red cross-stitch with the initials B and K separated by a geometric motif, above the date 1855 flanked by eight-pointed star motifs. The third piece is a fine cream-colored linen towel featuring rows of intricate drawn thread work (hemstitching) and a knotted fringe edge.
