Description
This lot consists of three antique hand-loomed white textile pieces featuring hand-worked cross-stitch embroidery. The collection includes one huckaback towel and two fine linen runners or large napkins. The huckaback towel is constructed from hand-loomed linen or cotton with a textured honeycomb weave and a single self-fringed end. The upper center is decorated with red cross-stitch embroidery featuring the initials D and M flanking a stylized heart symbol, positioned above the date 1821. The two smaller rectangular pieces are made of fine plain-weave white linen. Each features a horizontal band of cross-stitch embroidery in shades of red and brown consisting of a central stylized floral urn or basket motif flanked by geometric square borders and various initials. One piece is marked with the letters S, a geometric square, G or C, the central floral motif, a geometric square, and the letter E. The second piece is marked with a stylized letter resembling a K or X, a geometric square, the letter M, the central floral motif, a geometric square, and a second stylized K or X. One edge of each plain-weave piece is finished with a self-fringe. 15×60
