Description
This lot consists of two hardcover volumes of historical and literary interest. The first is Volume I of Twenty-Five Years 1892-1916 by Viscount Grey of Fallodon, K.G., published by Frederick A. Stokes Company, New York, 1925. This octavo volume is bound in brownish-grey cloth with gilt lettering on the spine and a gilt-stamped facsimile signature on the front board. The title page confirms it contains thirty-two illustrations from photographs, including a frontispiece portrait of Sir Edward Grey. The copyright page identifies this as the First Edition, Second Printing (before publication), dated September 4, 1925. The second item is Volume II of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo, published by George Routledge & Sons, Limited, New York, London, and Manchester. The copyright date is 1887 by Joseph L. Blamire. This volume is part of a uniform series of Hugo?s novels and is bound in burgundy cloth with gilt spine titles. It features numerous wood-engraved illustrations and plates based on designs by Victor Hugo, Bayard, Brion, Johannot, and other French artists. The title page states it is the second of two volumes.
