Description
This collection consists of multiple mid-20th-century literary volumes published by major American houses. The titles include Read With Me, a personal anthology selected and introduced by Thomas B. Costain, published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City; Island in the Sun by Alec Waugh, published by Farrar, Straus and Cudahy, New York; and three volumes published by Charles Scribner’s Sons, New York: The Last Tycoon and This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. The books are octavo format and bound in publisher’s cloth of various colors. The Fitzgerald volumes feature matching black cloth bindings with gilt-stamped lettering and circular emblems on the spines. The Hemingway volume, featuring a 1954 renewal copyright, is bound in blue cloth with silver-toned lettering. The Waugh volume is bound in yellow cloth with an orange title block on the spine and refers to the story as being set in the West Indies during the 1950s. The Costain anthology is bound in dark green cloth with gilt horizontal bands and lettering.
