Lot 19:
Sold for: $50
Description
15.5 in tall This three-gallon stoneware butter churn features a tapered cylindrical body with two integrated lug handles. The handles are fitted with wire bails and turned wooden grips. The front of the vessel is decorated with a hand-painted cobalt blue number 3 in a stylized script, identifying the capacity. The piece is finished in a cream-colored Bristol glaze. The recessed lid features a central knob. The base shows three small indentations or notches around the bottom rim, which are characteristic kiln-firing marks. This form and decoration are highly consistent with stoneware produced by the Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio, although no impressed maker’s mark is present.
