Description

18 in long 10.5 dia This antique industrial transport vessel was designed for the storage and conveyance of liquids such as kerosene or oil, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The container features an internal metal canister encased within a protective outer jacket constructed from vertical wood staves. The wooden cladding is held in place by three horizontal wire bands featuring a decorative wavy pattern. The vessel is topped with a metal conical cap that integrates a pour spout and a pivoting bail handle equipped with a turned wooden grip. The spout is currently sealed with an aged and partially degraded cork stopper. No maker marks, brand logos, or patent information are visible on the exterior surfaces. This type of reinforced construction was a standard safety measure for bulk transport of flammable or messy liquids prior to the widespread use of all-metal drums.
