Description
7×9 This is a commemorative advertising thermometer produced for the 1932 bicentennial of George Washington’s birth. The display features a color portrait of George Washington on the right side and an integrated spirit thermometer on the left. The Fahrenheit scale ranges from 0 to 120 degrees and includes descriptive markers such as Freezing, Temperate, Summer Heat, and Blood Heat. Below the thermometer tube is a graphic of a bald eagle with outstretched wings perched above a decorative scroll. The printed text on the front reads 1732 – BI-CENTENNIAL – 1932, GEO. E. SEESHOLTZ CO., FUNERAL DIRECTORS, and DIAL 5344. The display is housed in a simple metal frame under glass with a printed paper or cardboard substrate. A fragment of text visible on the reverse indicates the business was located in Terre Haute, Indiana.
