Description
16×20 A group of mid-century offset lithograph prints on paper, produced for promotional purposes by B. G. & C. Co. as indicated by marginal inscriptions reading LITHO IN U.S.A. B. G. & C. Co. The collection features a variety of Americana and sentimental illustrations typical of the period, likely intended for use in commercial calendars. Included subjects are a religious illustration of a boy praying titled Thy Kingdom Come… signed in the plate by Peter Stevens; a character study of a hobo with a dog accompanied by text reading Many people who never wore crowns are royal in their hearts signed in the plate by Justin Gruelle; a humorous suburban baseball scene titled Double Play signed in the plate by Lon Winston; a Western-themed scene featuring a woman and a horse with a sign reading Useful Advertising; and a floral and fruit still life titled Nature’s Bounty. The Western and still life scenes appear to be photomechanical reproductions of color photography, while the others are reproductions of paintings. Each print features wide margins and a single pre-punched hole at the top center.
