Lot 145A:
Description
26 in dia This early 20th-century bass drum is manufactured by Ludwig & Ludwig of Chicago. It represents a classic "trap" drum configuration commonly used in vaudeville, silent film pits, and early jazz ensembles. The drum features a dark-stained wood shell and natural finish wood hoops secured by metal tension rods with T-handle screws. Both the batter and front heads are constructed of natural animal skin. The shell is fitted with an oval brass manufacturer’s badge featuring a script Ludwig logo, a graphic depiction of two horns flanking the air vent, and the text Ludwig & Ludwig Chicago. Included with the drum are several period-correct attachments: a wooden woodblock with a metal mounting clamp, a curved metal arm supporting a small cymbal, and a vintage bass drum pedal featuring a wool and felt beater.
