Description
16×7.5×7 An antique precision torsion balance manufactured by The Torsion Balance Co. of New York and Jersey City. The instrument is housed within a protective enclosure featuring clear glass side panels and a thick, green-edged plate glass top surface. The internal weighing mechanism is visible, featuring a central vertical indicator assembly with a spherical weight and a red-tipped needle. The interior base plate is embossed with the text TORSION BALANCE. The mechanism includes a horizontal beam with a graduated scale and sliding poise, alongside two adjustable counterweights mounted on threaded vertical rods. The exterior is equipped with two cross-shaped metal supports designed to hold weighing pans, with remnants of protective padding on the tips. The unit sits on a cast metal base supported by four knurled leveling screws. Width: Approximately 12-14 inches.
