Description

This Victorian-era photograph album features a heavily embossed dark brown leather or leatherette binding. The front cover is decorated with a central gilt motif of two birds perched on a rose branch, surrounded by ornamental geometric and horseshoe borders. The interior contains a collection of late 19th-century photographs, including tintypes, Cartes de Visite, and Cabinet Cards, housed within window-cut pages featuring gold-toned borders. Many of the portraits are accompanied by period handwritten identifications in pencil, including Lloyd Woodward, Aunt Della Woodward, Uncle Elmer Woodward, Uncle Henry Oliver, and His Wife. Photographic marks and ephemera indicate regional origins in the American Midwest, specifically Chas. Hartwick?s Gallery, Indiana, Norwalk, Ohio, and Coldwater. Notable inserts include a printed slip titled Abraham Lincoln?s Favorite and a portion of a label for a Dr. Hess Stock Book. The internal pages are constructed of heavy cardstock.
