Description

5x2x5 A matching pair of vintage cast iron bookends, attributed to Verona and dating to the early to mid-20th century. Each bookend depicts a three-masted sailing ship or galleon with billowing sails, positioned atop stylized cresting waves. The bases feature a hammered or pebbled texture on the front face. The pieces are sand-cast with flat, unfinished backs. A bronze-toned patinated finish is applied over the gray base metal. Raised lettering is cast into the front wave section of the base; the word SHIP is partially legible on both pieces, though subsequent characters are obscured by the casting process and surface wear. No other maker marks or foundry stamps are visible. Dimensions: Not specified.
