Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 64:
Description
83 x 96 A mid-20th-century hand-pieced and hand-quilted patchwork quilt. The design features a grid of eight-point star blocks, including variants of the LeMoyne star pattern, executed in a variety of pastel floral and striped cotton fabrics. These textiles are characteristic of American feed sack prints from the 1930s through the 1950s. The stars are set against a plain white cotton ground and are separated by sashing in a blue-on-white floral print. The sashing is accented with diamond-on-point cornerstones. The outer border includes a repeating diamond-on-point motif, framed by thin blue-and-white striped piping and finished with wide white borders. The quilting is performed by hand, with stitches following the geometric outlines of the pieced blocks. The reverse is finished with a solid white cotton fabric.
