Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 52:
Description
72 x 72 This vintage American patchwork quilt features the traditional Lone Star pattern, also known as the Star of Bethlehem. The central motif is a large eight-pointed star constructed from hundreds of small diamond-shaped cotton fabric scraps. These fabrics include a diverse assortment of mid-20th-century prints such as calicos, ginghams, stripes, and solids. The star expands outward in concentric, zigzagging rows of contrasting patterns and colors. The composition is framed by a wide border of various floral and geometric print cotton fabrics. The quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted, with a plain white cotton fabric backing.
