Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 53:
Description
60 x 72 This is a handmade American scrappy patchwork quilt constructed from various square blocks arranged in a grid pattern. The quilt top features an assortment of printed cotton fabrics, including florals, ginghams, stripes, and solids. Several blocks utilize traditional patterns such as nine-patch variations and pinwheel or star motifs composed of small triangles. The piece is entirely hand quilted in a fan or clamshell pattern which is visible across the front and the plain white cotton backing. The quilt is finished with a simple white fabric binding. The variety of fabrics and patterns is characteristic of quilts from the Depression Era through the mid-20th century, which often repurposed materials from clothing and feed sacks.
