Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 467:
Description
76 x 78 This antique patchwork quilt is hand-pieced in a design known as a Granny Square pattern, composed of numerous small square cotton fabric patches arranged in concentric rounds to form individual blocks. The quilt utilizes a variety of late 19th to early 20th-century textiles, including printed calicos, shirtings, and ginghams in a palette featuring indigo blue, madder red, deep purple, and various shades of brown and green. These patterned blocks are set against an off-white or cream cotton ground. The entire piece is densely hand-quilted in a small-scale grid pattern, with uniform stitching visible on both the decorative front and the solid cream cotton reverse. No maker’s marks or signatures are present.
