Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 45:
Description
66 x 84 This pieced and hand-quilted cotton bedcovering features a repeating Basket motif, a variation of the fruit or flower basket pattern. The quilt is constructed with blocks set on point, each containing a basket formed from lavender and yellow half-square triangles. These motifs are set against a yellow ground and separated by large, diamond-shaped blocks of gray cotton fabric. The piece is finished with a triple border consisting of a thin inner yellow band, a wide middle gray band, and a final yellow outer border. The entire quilt is hand-quilted in a diagonal grid pattern that follows the orientation of the blocks. The reverse is composed of solid yellow cotton fabric, clearly displaying the hand-stitching in a contrasting dark thread. A white cotton fabric strip has been loosely tacked along the bottom edge of the reverse side, likely intended as a hanging sleeve.
