Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 44:
Description
64 x 80 This is a vintage American handmade patchwork quilt, constructed in a sampler or scrap style. The central portion of the quilt consists of four large blocks in a Bowtie or Hourglass pattern, rendered in vibrant solid blue and green cotton fabrics. These central blocks are framed by a grid of sashing in a green, yellow, and white plaid pattern. Wide horizontal bands of blue, denim-like cotton fabric separate the central section from the outer sampler borders. The borders and corner blocks feature a diverse array of traditional patterns, including Dresden Plate variations, Star patterns, and various geometric scrap blocks. The fabrics utilized are a mix of cotton prints characteristic of the mid-century feed sack era, including small-scale florals, ginghams, plaids, and geometrics. The entire piece is hand-quilted with a utility-style grid and outline stitch. The backing is a plain off-white cotton fabric.
