Description
80 x 106 A vintage American hand-pieced yo-yo quilt, also known as a Suffolk puff quilt, featuring a chevron or zig-zag arrangement. The coverlet is constructed from numerous individual fabric circles, hand-gathered and joined to create an unbacked textile mesh. The pattern consists of multicolored bands in shades of yellow, purple, blue, pink, and teal. The fabrics used include a variety of printed cotton and cotton-blend scraps with floral, geometric, and star motifs. Based on the textile prints and construction techniques, the piece is attributed to the 1930s. The quilt terminates in a naturally scalloped edge formed by the circular construction. Close-up images show varied prints typical of the mid-20th-century period.
