Description
37 x 41, 42 x 42 A pair of hand-quilted and appliqu?d textile wall hangings, executed in a style reminiscent of mid-20th-century Colonial Lady or Lady of Leisure quilt patterns. Each piece features a stylized portrait of a woman wearing an elaborate hat. The first hanging displays a woman in profile wearing a wide-brimmed hat accented with a large pink fabric bow, surrounded by a purple and blue floral print border and a solid teal inner border. The second hanging shows a frontal portrait of a woman in a blue hat with a large floral appliqu?, framed by a pink geranium-motif floral print and a magenta inner border. The pieces utilize various needlework techniques including hand-stitched appliqu?, embroidery for facial details, and decorative hand-quilting in linear and interlocking chain patterns. Both hangings are finished with a plain cream-colored fabric on the reverse.
