Description
68 x 84 This textile is a hand-pieced and hand-stitched quilt top, likely of mid-20th-century American origin. The construction utilizes a wide variety of cotton fabric scraps, including floral prints, ginghams, plaids, and solids. Several of the printed fabrics are characteristic of domestic textiles from the 1930s to 1950s, including patterns frequently associated with feedsack materials. The quilt features multiple blocks executed in a variation of the Churn Dash or Monkey Wrench pattern. These blocks are separated by wide yellow sashing accented with solid green cornerstone squares. A wide solid pink fabric border is attached to one edge, and portions of the piece appear to have a pink backing fabric partially attached. The item is in an unfinished state, as it lacks the traditional decorative quilting stitches that join a top, batting, and back together into a finished blanket.
