Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 400:
Description
72 x 80 This is an antique American hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton quilt, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The piece features a grid of Shoo-Fly pattern blocks (a variation featuring a central nine-patch motif surrounded by half-square triangles) alternating with solid cream squares. The blue fabrics consist of various indigo-dyed printed cottons including small florals, dots, and geometric calico patterns. The quilt is set against a cream-colored cotton ground and features a solid cream cotton backing. Both the piecing and the horizontal channel quilting (utility quilting) are executed by hand. The perimeter is finished with an indigo print cotton binding.
