Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 360:
Description
28 x 28, 34 x 36 This lot features two small, hand-pieced and hand-quilted wall hangings or miniature quilts showcasing traditional American patterns. The first piece is a variation of the Grandmother’s Fan pattern, consisting of five blocks arranged in a semi-circular orientation. These fans are constructed from various pastel and muted solid-colored cotton fabrics, including shades of light blue, lavender, sage green, tan, and grey, each anchored by a solid pink center. The cream-colored field exhibits extensive hand quilting in the forms of floral sprigs and feathered wreaths, while the border features a diagonal feathered quilting design. The reverse is a light cream fabric with a matching thin binding. The second piece features a classic Bowtie or Spools pattern with four blocks in a two-by-two grid. This piece is rendered in high-contrast solid colors including forest green, black, and a vibrant purple field, a style characteristic of Amish or Mennonite traditions. It is fully hand-quilted with a repeating cable or braided motif in the wide black border and concentric diamond and circular patterns in the interior. The reverse is solid forest green with a purple binding.
