Lot 361:

Description
76 x 96 flowers, 82 x 88 yellow This lot consists of two unfinished cotton quilt tops dating to the mid-20th century, likely between 1930 and 1940. The first quilt top features a white cotton ground with hand-appliqued floral motifs. The central design displays a spray of pink carnations and a single blue iris with yellow accents, surrounded by a border of stylized yellow and orange flowers with green stems and leaves. The second quilt top is a pieced design featuring stylized nine-pointed star or sunflower motifs with alternating light blue and yellow petals around a central yellow square. These blocks are set on a white ground with a wide, solid yellow border. Both items are in an assembly stage with raw, unhemmed edges. A defining characteristic of both pieces is the extensive presence of pencil quilting guides that have not been stitched. These marks include decorative patterns on the floral top and large sunflower motifs with interlacing cable designs on the borders of the star top.
