Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 323:
Description
76 x 84 This is an unfinished vintage quilt top hand pieced in the Grandmothers Flower Garden pattern. The design consists of hexagonal flower blocks, each featuring a solid yellow center surrounded by two concentric rings of varied floral and patterned fabrics. These flower motifs are joined by a lattice of white hexagons accented with small green diamond shaped sashing pieces at the intersections. The fabrics are primarily cotton and include a diverse selection of period appropriate prints such as calicoes, small florals, and geometric patterns characteristic of mid 20th century scrap or feed sack quilts. The piece remains an unfinished top, lacking batting, a backing, and final quilting stitches. The perimeter edges are irregular and unfinished, showing the raw hand stitched construction. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the textile.
