Description

56 x 82 An antique American utility scrap quilt or quilt top featuring hand-pieced construction. The primary design consists of a variation of the Dresden Plate or Friendship Wheel motif. These circular blocks are set within a grid of blue cotton sashing made from at least two distinct fabrics: a blue-on-blue polka dot print and a blue-on-blue striped shirting. A secondary section of the textile displays a simple checkerboard grid of small rectangular scraps. The quilt is composed of a wide variety of late 19th and early 20th-century cotton fabrics, including indigo-dyed prints, red-and-black calicos, assorted shirting stripes, floral prints, checks, and ginghams. One block features a wedge of dark brown velveteen or corduroy. One central circular motif displays a dark blue fabric printed with white anchors. No maker labels or signatures are visible. A modern white paper inventory tag with a barcode is attached to the edge.
