Description
56 x 72 An unfinished quilt top composed of twelve square blocks, each featuring a hand-appliqued turtle motif. The turtles are constructed from four pieced quadrants of various blue cotton fabrics, including navy, turquoise, and chambray denim. Each turtle is finished with a red hand-blanket stitch around the perimeter and two hand-embroidered red eyes. The background fabrics for each block consist of a variety of mid-20th-century cotton prints, including floral patterns, paisley designs, and abstract geometric graphics. A printed selvage mark reading S VATS is visible on the background fabric of the center block. The reverse side reveals exposed seam allowances, hand-stitching, and knotted threads.
