Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 2:
Description
66 x 52 A vintage American patchwork quilt featuring a variation of the Sawtooth Star pattern, also known as the Evening Star. The quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted, utilizing an assortment of mid-20th-century scrap fabrics including blue and white ginghams, pin-striped shirting, solid burgundy cottons, and small-scale floral and checked prints. These patterned blocks alternate in a grid with solid goldenrod or Cheddar yellow squares. The reverse side consists of a solid, faded grey-blue cotton fabric. The hand-quilting is executed in a dense fan or shell motif, which has created a highly textured and puckered surface. The quilt is finished with a simple light blue fabric binding.
