Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 3:
Description
71 x 88 An antique hand-pieced and hand-quilted cotton textile featuring a Triple Irish Chain pattern. The quilt top is constructed with a vibrant solid green field, accented by interlocking chains of small red and white squares. Tan-colored fabric squares are utilized at specific intervals and corners within the chains. Large white squares are set at the primary intersections. The piece is extensively quilted by hand, featuring diagonal cross-hatching within the white blocks and nested chevrons and diamonds across the green ground. The reverse is finished with a printed cotton backing fabric displaying a small-scale geometric shirting print of brown diamonds and black dots on a cream ground. Based on the materials, construction, and pattern, the piece is consistent with American quilt-making from the late 19th to early 20th century.
