Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 1:
Description
75 x 80 This antique American quilt is a hand-pieced and hand-quilted textile crafted from red and white cotton fabrics. The design utilizes a variation of the Sawtooth Sunburst or Sunflower pattern, featuring white circular medallions with sharp, radiating points along their edges. These patterned blocks are set against a solid red ground and alternate with solid white squares in a checkerboard layout. The perimeter of the quilt is framed by a border of alternating red and white stripes. Intricate hand-quilting is visible throughout the piece, including stylized floral and foliate motifs within the centers of the white circles and a diagonal diamond-grid pattern across the striped borders. A hand-embroidered inscription in red thread is located in one corner, reading Ev. on the first line and 6-86 on the second line, identifying the maker and dating the piece to June 1886.
