Antiques Quilts and Toppers
Lot 19:
Description
30 x 68 This is a hand-crafted patchwork quilt featuring twenty-five Sawtooth Star blocks arranged in a five-by-five grid. The stars are pieced from solid-colored cotton fabrics in various shades of blue, pink, magenta, yellow, and lavender, all set against a white ground. The piece is finished with a light blue fabric binding. The quilting is hand-stitched throughout the entire piece. The star blocks feature a diagonal diamond grid quilting pattern, while the white sashing and borders are decorated with an interlocking cable or oval motif. In one corner of the reverse side, there is hand-embroidered text in blue thread reading E. W. over 5 – 9 7. This inscription suggests the piece was completed by an individual with those initials in May 1997.
