Description
This is a ceramic foot warmer produced by Grimwades Ltd. under the Winton brand, titled The Mecca Foot Warmer. Crafted from English Ivory Ware earthenware, the vessel features a flattened oval form designed with no sharp corners for comfort during use. The design includes two circular finger-hole handles at the shoulders and a short neck with its original knurled ceramic screw-top stopper. The body is decorated with a Chinoiserie-inspired polychrome design over a dense black transfer-printed background of fine trailing vines. The decoration depicts two exotic birds?one in flight and one perched?amidst large pink peonies and smaller orange and yellow blossoms. The base is marked with a comprehensive black transfer backstamp: THE MECCA FOOT WARMER / MADE IN FINEST ENGLISH IVORY WARE / REG NO 571373 / GRIMWADES / [crown and globe logo] / WINTON / STOKE-ON-TRENT / ENGLAND. Additional text on the base reads NO SHARP CORNERS and CAN BE USED AS A WARMING [unclear]. The registered design number 571373 indicates the design originated circa 1910.
