Description

This is a two-piece covered butter dish manufactured by the Imperial Glass Corporation in the Lustre Rose pattern. The set is composed of pressed carnival glass featuring a marigold iridescent finish, a color often marketed by the manufacturer as Rubigold. The domed cover is decorated with a high-relief pattern of roses, thorny stems, and foliage, topped with a multi-tiered knop finial. The matching underplate features a wide border of roses and leaves, a scalloped and beaded rim, and a central rayed starburst design. The center of the base bears an embossed IG monogram trademark, identifying it as a production of the Imperial Glass Corporation of Bellaire, Ohio. This specific mark indicates the piece was produced during the company’s mid-20th-century revival period. The iridescent surface treatment displays a spectrum of orange, pink, and yellow tones. As a pressed glass item, the base is finished flat within the mold and does not possess a pontil mark.
