Description
An assortment of volumes from the extensive historical series titled The War of the Rebellion: Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, published by the United States War Department through the Government Printing Office. These octavo volumes belong to Series I and contain primary source documentation, including military reports and correspondence from the American Civil War. Specific volumes present include components of Volume XXIV (Vicksburg Campaign), Volume XXXI (Knoxville Campaign), Volume XXXIX (Tupelo, Mobile Bay, and Allatoona), and Volume XL (Petersburg and Richmond). Each volume is bound in publisher’s original dark brown or black cloth with gilt-stamped lettering on the spines. The spine text identifies the series, volume, part, and serial number, alongside a brief summary of the operations and dates covered. Visible serial numbers include 36, 37, 38, 54, 78, 79, 80, 81, and 82.
