Description

This collection features several original 19th-century tintypes, also known as ferrotypes, depicting a variety of Victorian-era sitters. The portraits are formal studio compositions and include individual men and women, a baby in a lace gown, couples, and small family groups. One full-length portrait of a woman is set against a painted landscape studio backdrop. The images are produced on thin iron plates and are unmounted and unframed. Several plates have clipped corners, which was a common practice for fitting the photographs into period albums or cases. There are no visible signatures, studio stamps, or inscriptions on the surfaces or reverse sides of the plates.
