Description

This is a 1923 military yearbook, Volume II of The Mess Kit, documenting the Citizens’ Military Training Camp (CMTC) at Camp Knox, Kentucky, within the Fifth Corps Area. The work was prepared by the men of the camp under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Major Edgar Dow Gilman, Engr., ORC, and published by the Military Training Camps Association of the United States in Chicago. This quarto-sized hardcover volume is bound in dark blue cloth-covered boards with gold-stamped lettering and a central gilt seal for the National Citizens’ Military Training Camps. Internally, the book contains numerous black-and-white photographic plates, camp rosters, and humorous cartoons signed by Teter. It features a dedicated memorial frontispiece to President Warren G. Harding. The text includes first-person accounts such as My Experience as a K.P. by J. J. Burke and Crumbs by Robert W. Shobe.
