Lot 317:
Description
This is an antique two-piece hinged metal confectionery mold. The interior contains four cavities that, when the mold is closed, form two complete three-dimensional figures of a horse hitched to a two-wheeled carriage. The casting includes intricate details such as the texture of the horse’s mane and tail, the harness equipment, and the spokes of the carriage wheels. The mold is constructed of tinned steel with a heavy metal spine hinge and sliding bar locks on the outer edges. The exterior spine is stamped with the numerical sequence 2704. This style of mold was commonly used by professional confectioners in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for chocolate or marzipan production.
