Description
This early 20th-century circular hand fan features multi-product advertisements on both sides. The front side displays a polychrome lithographic advertisement for The Sleepy Eye Mills of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, promoting Sleepy Eye Cream Highest Patent Flour. The central image depicts a profile portrait of the Native American figure identified as Old Sleepy Eye, whose headband contains the words Trade Mark. The reverse side is printed in black ink and serves as a local advertisement for the Barrett Merc. Co. of Skidmore, Missouri. This side includes a graphic for Buster Brown Health Shoes featuring the characters Buster Brown and his dog Tige, alongside a customer service pledge and additional text promoting Sleepy Eye Flour. The fan is constructed from a printed cardboard disc attached to a shaped wooden handle with two metal staples. A small printer credit for Wilmans Bros. Co., Milwaukee, is located at the bottom center of the front face. An auction tag is currently attached to the handle.
