Description

20×17. An early 20th-century tin-lithograph advertising sign for Newbro?s Herpicide, manufactured by The Herpicide Company of Detroit, Michigan. The sign is designed as a promotional piece featuring a central color illustration titled A Herpicide Girl, which depicts a young woman in an Edwardian-style lace-trimmed corset applying the hair dressing from a glass bottle. The upper portion of the sign displays the brand name Newbro’s Herpicide in stylized decorative font. The lower section includes the slogan A DELIGHTFUL HAIR DRESSING. Affixed to the lower center is a paper calendar pad, currently showing the month of July 1916. The sign is constructed from lithographed tin and includes two factory-punched holes at the top edge with an attached hanging cord. The brand name is also visible on the label of the bottle held by the central figure.
