Description

39 inches tall. This antique coin-operated pedestal scale, commonly referred to as a lollipop scale, was manufactured by the Columbia Weighing Machine Co. of New York, NY. The unit is constructed with a porcelain-enameled cast iron and steel housing. The circular dial face is marked ONE CENT at the top center and features weight increments from 10 to 290 pounds. A historic property label is visible through the lower portion of the dial glass, identifying the owner as A. J. Fisher of Pittsburgh, PA. The front of the pedestal features an embossed metal identification plaque that reads COLUMBIA WEIGHING MACHINE CO. PATENTED NEW YORK. The weighing platform is decorated with an inset mosaic of terracotta, tan, and white hexagonal tiles. The coin intake slot is positioned at the top of the circular head. The reverse of the scale contains a large circular metal access plate with a lock mechanism. One metal key is included, currently secured to the pedestal.
