Description
A vintage Camel Cigarettes light-up point-of-sale advertising sign produced for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The sign features a vacuum-molded three-dimensional plastic front panel set within a black plastic lightbox housing. The graphic depicts the Joe Camel mascot character dressed in a tuxedo and sunglasses, holding an open pack of Camel Lights cigarettes. The display includes a large backlit yellow Camel brand logo and a vertical red-illuminated OPEN sign designed to simulate a neon effect. The lower center includes the mandatory Surgeon General’s Warning regarding carbon monoxide. The front top left is marked ? 1993 (2) R.J. REYNOLDS TOBACCO CO. The reverse features an embossed plaque stating the product is protected under U.S. Patent No. 5,237,766, patented in 1993 by the Thomas A. Schutz Company of Morton Grove, Illinois. A side label provides relamping instructions for Model No. 498238, specifying the use of two F4BX and one F27BX fluorescent lamps, alongside an ETL certification sticker.
