Description

This oak hall bench is designed in the style of a 19th-century horse-drawn buckboard wagon or buggy seat. The item is constructed from solid oak with a prominent grain and a honey-toned clear finish. The bench features a rectangular seat with low, flared sides and a central inset panel of woven cane. The backrest consists of a single oak board supported by black-finished metal rails, featuring a hand-painted floral motif of white daisies with yellow centers and green foliage at the center. The seat assembly is mounted on four functional black-finished metal leaf springs that mimic vintage carriage suspension. These springs are secured to a heavy oak trestle-style base comprising two solid end blocks joined by a central horizontal stretcher. The piece is reinforced throughout with black metal corner brackets, bolts, and hardware. No maker’s marks or labels were identified on the item.
