Description
A vintage floor-standing oil dispensing unit, commonly referred to as a lubester, manufactured by Gilbert and Barker. The unit features a rectangular sheet steel tank finished in red, topped with a manual cast-iron piston pump assembly and a hinged fill lid. The base of the pump assembly is embossed with the letters G & B, identifying the manufacturer as Gilbert and Barker Manufacturing Company. The cast-iron fill lid is embossed with several lines of text including GARGOYLE, Mobiloil, VACUUM OIL CO., and NEW YORK USA. The pump neck bears the cast alphanumeric string 7875X, while the upper pipe elbow is cast with 3513X. The front of the tank displays a shield-shaped decal with the red Mobiloil Pegasus logo and brand name, consistent with a modern restoration. The assembly includes a hand-operated pump lever topped with a black knob and a curved return spout.
