Description
This antique autographic cash register was manufactured by The Peck Cash Register Co. of Syracuse, New York. The cabinet is constructed of quartersawn oak featuring paneled sides and a molded base. The top surface is adorned with a decorative cast brass gallery featuring ornate scrolling foliate openwork and a central arched header embossed with the text THE PECK. Functional components on the top include a corrugated brass coin tray and a brass-framed window for recording transactions onto an internal paper roll. A secondary brass plate with a vertical slot is positioned at the front left. The interior, accessed via a hinged top, houses the original paper-feed mechanism and a signal bell. A lever on the right side of the unit is designed to advance the paper and trigger the audible signal. The lower portion of the cabinet contains a wooden cash drawer with eight divided compartments for currency and coins.
