Description
This antique child’s tricycle features a hand-carved wooden horse in a rearing pose, mounted on a decorative cast-iron frame. The horse is finished in a light tan color with a carved mane and painted black accents on the muzzle and hooves. It includes an embossed brown leather saddle with floral patterns and metal stirrups. The rear of the horse features a genuine hair tail. The velocipede mechanism consists of three large metal-spoked wheels with a direct-drive pedal system attached to the front wheel hub. Steering is facilitated by T-bar handlebars with wooden grips. The supporting frame is made of decorative cast iron with ornamental scrollwork. This style of toy is characteristic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often attributed to Victorian-era American or European nursery equipment manufacturers.
