Description
A pair of hand-carved and polychrome painted wooden duck decoys from Tom Taber’s Woodendare Studio. The larger decoy depicts a Mallard drake in a resting position, featuring layered feather carving on the back and wings, a green-toned head, and inset glass eyes. The smaller decoy is a Green-winged Teal drake with a copper-colored head, iridescent green eye stripe, speckled breast, and a vertical white bar on the flank, also with glass eyes. Both figures are finished with a combination of stains and paint to highlight the natural wood grain. The base of the Mallard decoy features an inset brass plaque inscribed Tom Taber’s Woodendare Studio Signature Collection 1985-1986 Season, along with a hand-incised signature for Tom Taber. The Teal decoy bears a hand-incised Tom Taber signature on the base and an oval indentation with adhesive residue where a plaque was previously attached.
