Lot 141:
Ray Kunz Trio Carved Wood Decoys w/ Trumpeter Swan
Sold for: $100
Description
This lot comprises a trio of hand-carved wooden bird figurines. The centerpiece is a large stylized Trumpeter Swan decoy by American artist Ray Kunz. The body of the swan is carved from natural wood, featuring a polished finish that highlights the wood grain and natural inclusions. The neck and head are finished with a stippled white paint texture that blends into the body with painted feather details. The bill and facial mask are rendered in matte black paint. The base of the swan features a recessed cork lining that frames a wooden center. This central area contains hand-written ink inscriptions stating STYLIZED TRUMPETER SWAN BY Ray Kunz followed by a signature reading RK Ray Kunz. Accompanying the swan are two smaller minimalist bird carvings, possibly representing doves or cygnets. These figures are executed in an unpainted, light-colored wood with a smooth matte finish. No maker marks or signatures are visible on these two smaller pieces.
