Description
42 inches long. An antique American double-occupancy schoolhouse desk and bench combination, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The unit is constructed with a slatted hardwood desktop, front panel, and seat, featuring alternating light and dark wood tones that create a striped visual pattern. The writing surface is slanted and includes a longitudinal carved pencil groove and a single circular inkwell cutout. An open-front storage compartment for books and supplies is situated beneath the desktop. The structural support consists of two heavy cast iron frames featuring decorative scrolling fretwork and integral feet designed for floor attachment. The iron frames have been finished in a terracotta red paint. A raised circular mark containing the number 4 is cast into the central portion of the iron supports.
