Description
This is a Stanley Rule & Level Co. No. 113 adjustable circular or compass plane, specifically designed for planing concave or convex curved surfaces. The tool is constructed with a cast iron frame and a flexible steel sole. The curvature of the sole is controlled by a large brass adjustment knob at the front, which operates a rack-and-pinion gear mechanism visible on the sides of the body. The plane features a black japanned finish on the frame and includes its original lever cap, steel iron (blade), and a black-finished rear handle (tote). Several markings are clearly visible: the model designation "No 113" is cast into the top of the frame. The side gear plate is stamped with the patent date "PAT 9-8-03". The circular brass front knob is embossed with "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO NEW BRITAIN CONN USA".
